Natasha Flores-Makon is a 6th generation chocolatier and innovative product developer dedicated to creating “better-for-you” chocolate items for nationwide private label customers.

With a deep-rooted passion for sustainability, she focuses on organic and regenerative sourcing practices that enhance cacao quality while supporting local communities. Combining traditional craftsmanship with modern nutritional insights, Natasha aims to redefine the chocolate experience, making it both delicious and environmentally responsible.

She believes in the power of chocolate to bring joy while contributing to a healthier body and planet.

MARKO FLORES-MAKON

Marko Flores-Makon

Inventory Systems &
Special Projects Manager

Marko served with distinction in the Canadian Armed Forces and, following his honorable discharge, joined the family business as Inventory and Special Projects Manager. In this role, he is responsible for implementing advanced warehouse and production management software systems to ensure precise lot tracking protocols for both ingredients and finished goods.

Marko brings valuable expertise in personnel management and a strong background in operating effectively under high-pressure conditions.

BEN FORD

Executive Manager of Operations

Since 2006. Ben is responsible for the shipment co-ordinations as well as organic compliance, third party audits, quality assurance, compliance management, procurement, trend forecasting, data analysis and FSVP.

Ben’s positive attitude, knowledge and experience makes him and invaluable member of our team.

JEFFREY RHOADS

Jeffrey Rhoads

Plant Manager

Jeff has been in chocolate production for over 41 yeas at Godiva Chocolatier and since 2017 acted as Senior Production Manager at Godiva. Jeff joined Defifoods in July 2023 as Plant Manager.

Jeff’s experience range is immense in manufacturing processes; transition from R&D product to full scale production; equipment selection set up and use; staff allocation and training; safety programs; production scheduling.  Everything done with a true and proved passion for high quality chocolate production.

Manufacturing Technical Consultant

Karl, our manufacturing technical “hands on” consultant has been involved in manufacture of chocolates for the past 49 years. 

He recently retired from his Production Manager role at a national chocolate facility which produces chocolate products for notable brands such as: Nestle, Cadbury, Godiva, Hershey.  Karl has been instrumentally involved in the set -up of production and packaging at Defifoods since 2022.

Manufacturing Technical Consultant

Tim Rogers, retired president of Chris Candies, is supporting Delfifoods on a consulting basis.

With over 30 years of managing all aspects of chocolate manufacturing he is assisting Defifoods in many areas of our operation. His expertise lies in addressing both general and specific opportunities. He identifies potential issues while solving others before they exist. His pragmatic approach to his profession benefits Defifoods and our customers in many ways.Tim is well respected and connected in the chocolate industry.

QUALTITY & OPERATIONS MANAGER

Multifaceted chocolate industry professional with over 21 years of chocolate manufacturing experience, who brings a passion in manufacturing innovative high quality chocolate products!

Specific duties include stewardship in certifications of NOP Organic, Kosher, SQF, Gluten Free and others as required.

Operationally active in all production aspects to ensure safety and quality culture is always forefront with all team members.

JUSTIN NIEMAN

ELECTRO-MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Justin is an engineer who loves digging into complex problems and finding practical ways to make industrial processes run better.

His work experience spans electronics, control systems, mechanical, and thermal/material challenges. He enjoys taking projects from the first sketch all the way to a fully working solution. Whether it’s designing mechanical or electrical systems, building prototypes in a machine shop or lab, or installing and testing equipment in the field, he’s hands-on from start to finish. He relies on solid data, gathering it, analyzing it, and using it to make sure every solution truly delivers results.

MARK SCHROEDER

MAINTENANCE MANAGER

Mark has over 15 years of experience in the maintenance field, having started shortly after college. He enjoys the challenges and the essential role maintenance plays in keeping a facility running smoothly.

Being local to the Defiance area also allows him to spend more time with his wife and two young boys.

SHELBY MERRIMAN

WAREHOUSE MANAGER

Shelby has been in food manufacturing for 7 years as warehouse manager. She is certified in Food Defense and implementing SQF/HAACP plans.

Family is a big aspect of Shelby’s life, and she is happy to work for a company with the same values!
