Karlo Flores comes from a line of chocolate makers that spans five generations and three countries, Mexico, Canada and the USA.
When Karlo was sixteen his family moved to Canada and soon began redefining their traditional chocolates in a small storefront. None of the recipes were written down, so young Karlo jumped in, faithfully recording ingredients and improving techniques.
In 1996 Karlo founded KFM Foods International Inc, a private label chocolate manufacturer company which combines Karlo’s passionate commitment to innovation, best quality chocolate and ethically grown cocoa.
Karlo Flores created the Truffle bar,
the first North American chocolate bar with a truffle center.
His knowledge of technology led Karlo to create the Truffle bar, the first North American chocolate bar with a truffle center. His culinary breakthrough was united with a novel use of confectionary technology, resulting in an instant hit that earned Karlo and his family numerous business awards.
To better support our customers in the USA, Karlo Flores and his wife Fabiana Makon-Flores (Founder of Monde Chocolat) stablished Defifoods in Defiance, OH in 2022.
Our 119,000 square feet facility provides a Kosher Dairy certified manufacturing facility with easy access to major American transport routes.
At Defifoods we are niche, quality, organic and all natural confectionery developers, manufacturers and Purveyors for private label and co-manufacturing supplying our safe, custom-made products to retailers under their own label.
We are proudly family-owned business, with Karlo Flores as CEO and Fabiana Makon-Flores as Vice-President.
We share our passion for chocolate with both our children Marko Flores-Makon, Inventory Systems and Special Projects Manager and Natasha Flores-Makon, Executive Product Developer & Specialty Sales.
